First Understand Your Market
Most of us know someone who was involved in an Internet business that failed. Reliance on anticipated advertising or the next round of funding, instead of revenue from customers, caused a lot of Internet businesses to go bad. But many of those businesses were based on good ideas and could have succeeded if someone had taken the time to truly understand the customer, set an appropriate price, and identify a realistic path toward profitability.

Now the wireless web is poised for growth, but we must learn from recent failures and devise sound business models based on realistic revenue potential This article has two parts, each of which should help you better understand how to design your business model. First, we describe a simple process you can apply to identify the potential profitability of your idea before you start your development work. A key piece of that process is identification of your distribution channels, especially important in the wireless arena, because there are many options, more almost daily, and selection of the right APIs from the start can save you development effort. That leads us to the second part of the article, an overview of the alternative distribution channels, the "ecosystem" of resources evolving to help you take your wireless application to market.
